1 Usage note : what
In questionsAfter que the verb and subject are inverted and a hyphen is placed between them:what is he doing?= que fait-il? or qu’est-ce qu’il fait? When used in questions as a subject pronoun, what is translated by qu’est-ce qui:what happened?= qu’est-ce qui s’est passé?Used with a prepositionAfter a preposition the translation is quoi.Unlike in English, the preposition must always be placed immediately before quoi:with what did she cut it? or what did she cut it with?= avec quoi l’a-t-elle coupé?To introduce a clauseWhen used to introduce a clause as the object of the verb, what is translated by ce que (ce qu’ before a vowel):I don’t know what he wants= je ne sais pas ce qu’il veuttell me what happened= raconte-moi ce qui s’est passéFor particular usages see A in the entry what.As a determinerwhat used as a determiner is translated by quel, quelle, quels or quelles according to the gender and number of the noun that follows:what train did you catch?= quel train as-tu pris?what books do you like?= quels livres aimes-tu?what colours do you like?= quelles couleurs aimes-tu?For particular usages see B in the entry what. -

current-limiting circuit breaker
Circuit-breaker with a break-time short enough to prevent the short-circuit current reaching its otherwise attainable peak value.
[< size="2">IEC 60077-3, ed. 1.0 (2001-12)]
Circuit-breaker that, within a specified range of current, prevents the let-through current reaching the prospective peak value and which limits the let-through energy (I2t) to a value less than the let-through energy of a half-cycle wave of the symmetrical prospective current
NOTE 1 - Reference may be made to either the symmetrical or asymmetrical prospective peak value of let-through current.
NOTE 2 - The let-through current is also referred to as the cut-off current (see IEV 441-17-12).
NOTE 3 - Templates for the graphical representation of the cut-off current characteristic and the let-through energy characteristic are given in Figures K.2 to K.5 and examples of the use of the templates in Figures K.6 and K.7.

NOTE 2 Le courant coupé limité (let-through current) est aussi nommé "cut-off current" (voir VEI 441-17-12).

cut-off (current) characteristic
let-through (current) characteristic
a curve giving the cut-off current as a function of the prospective current, under stated conditions of operation
NOTE – In the case of a.c., the values of the cut-off currents are the maximum values which can be reached whatever the degree of asymmetry. In the case of d.c., the values of the cut-off currents are the maximum values reached related to the time constant as specified.

caractéristique de courant coupé limité
courbe donnant, pour des conditions déterminées de fonctionnement, le courant coupé limité en fonction du courant présumé
