(fr. ὕβρις, s. also ὑβριστής; Hom.+) in our lit. only trans. to treat in an insolent or spiteful manner, mistreat, scoff at, insult (Aristot., De Rhet. 2, 2 ἔστιν ὕβρις τὸ πράττειν καὶ λέγειν ἐφʼ οἷς αἰσχύνη ἐστὶ τῷ πάσχοντι=insolence means to do and say things that bring shame to the victim; cp. Demosth. 21, 48 a humane pers. does not mistreat even slaves) τινά someone (oft. in pap [Mayser II/2 p. 303; reff. for the pass. also here]) mistreat Mt 22:6 (w. ἀποκτείνω POxy 903, 5f [IV A.D.]); Ac 14:5.
