Meaning: (for κοίνα or κοῖνα?) χόρτος H.
    Origin: IE [Indo-European]X [probably] [610] * koino- `grass'
Etymology: Agrees completely with a Balto-Slavic word for `hay', e. g. Lith. šiẽnas, OCS sěno `χόρτος' (Persson BB 19, 257). Lat. fēnum, faenum `hay' can hardly be combined with it, s. W.-Hofmann s. v. and Nachträge 1, 864f. However, Latte supposes that it is about common ground, so from κοινός.
