Ai. 573, nach Schol. für ὄχανον gesetzt; ἐμβαλὼν πόρπακι χεῖρα, Eur. Hel. 1392 (bei dem es auch ein Theil des Pferdegeschirrs, wahrscheinlich der Kopfriemen ist, Rhes. 384); Ar. Equ. 846. 855. ὄχανον, τό, die Handhabe am Schilde, welche aus zwei Querbändern in der Mitte des hohlen Schildes bestand, durch welche man Arm u. Hand steckte, so daß man den Schild mit größerer Leichtigkeit schwingen konnte, nach Her. 1, 171 eine Erfindung der Karier an Stelle des frühern τελαμών (was zu vgl.); von πόρπαξ ist es nach Plut. (s. ὀχάνη) verschieden; Her. 2, 141 werden die ὄχανα von Mäusen zernagt; einzeln auch bei Sp., wie Luc. Gymnas. 27 Herod. 5.
