1916-1995Nacido en Columbus, Georgia, como actor infantil participa en algunas peliculas gloriosas como Cuatro hijos (Four Sons, John Ford, 1928), Sin novedad en el frente (All Quiet on the Western Front, Lewis Milestone, 1930) y Luces de la ciudad (City Lights, Charles Chaplin, 1931). John Ford lo contrato como ayudante de montador en Maria Estuardo (Mary of Scotland, 1936) y como editor de efectos sonoros en El joven Lincoln (Young Mr. Lincoln, 1939) y Corazones indomables (Drums Along the Mohawk, 1939). Parece decidirse por el trabajo de montador, que realiza tambien para John Ford en alguno de sus documentales belicos, y llega a recibir un Oscar por Cuerpo y alma (Body and Soul, Robert Rossen, 1947), pero en 1951 debuta como director con Cry Danger, punto de partida de una interesante filmografia que solo al final parece descender de nivel. 1890-1969Uno mas de la larga lista de realizadores de peliculas baratas para consumo inmediato que empezo en el cine casi al mismo tiempo que lo hacia Hollywood, y que despues de ser montador de al menos cuatro peliculas entre 1922 y 1924, salto a la direccion en 1926 con Warner Bros. Al llegar el sonoro lo encontramos dedicado casi por completo al western de serie, en el que trabaja para casi todos, William Boyd (sobre todo), Charles Starrett, Buck Jones, Tim Holt, Don Barry, Bob Steele, Bill Elliott, Johnny Mack Brown, en peliculas con frecuencia intercambiables, de no ser por la personalidad de su protagonista. 1894-1975El nombre de Joseph Kane se asocia de forma indisoluble a una productora, Republic, de principio a fin. Kane habia dirigido en 1935 un serial para Mascot, que junto con otras pequenas productoras se asociaron para fundar Republic ese mismo ano. Desde esa fecha hasta 1958, en que la productora desaparece, Kane es uno de sus directores mas prolificos. Estamos ante uno de los grandes nombres del western, en cantidad, ya que no en calidad. Entre 1934 y 1975 trabaja en no menos de 120 peliculas, la inmensa mayoria de las cuales pertenecen al genero que nos ocupa. Trabaja con Gene Autry, John Wayne, Robert Livingston, Roy Rogers, Bill Elliott, en tre otros. Despues dirigira algunos episodios de se ries de television y otras cuatro peliculas.
