The route départementale is a secondary road, maintained by the département and signalled as ‘D' followed by a road number and marked in yellow on French road maps. It is not intended to be used for fast travel between towns and can have stretches indicated in green on maps to mark panoramic views or local beauty spots. The routes nationales form part of the state-maintained road network, signalled as ‘N' followed by the road number and marked in red on French road maps. The routes nationales provide faster roads for travel between towns and cities. ⇒ Bison Futé[rut] nom féminin1. 7 Metro, the Paris
First opened in 1900, the Paris Metro (or Métropolitain) is the city's subway system or underground railway system. Most of the network within central Paris is underground, though there are some aerial sections, notably on routes 2 and 6. It is linked with the city's suburban rapid transit system, the RER. The Paris Metro is Europe's second most-used urban subway system after the Moscow underground. Most routes use standard gauge steel rail tracks, though five of the routes operate with rubber-tyred rolling stock, running on concrete tracks. These are considerably quieter than the traditional trains used on other routes. The most recent route, line 14, opened in 1998 and known as the "Météor", uses driverless trains.Dictionnaire Français-Anglais. Agriculture Biologique > Metro, the Paris

11 Bison Futé
I
® bizɔ̃fyte nom masculin: TV and radio traffic monitoring service
II
Symbolized by a little Native American, Bison Futé is a creation of the Centre National d'Information Routière, the French traffic information service which reports on travel conditions nationwide, particularly during holiday periods when traffic is heaviest, and recommends alternative routes (les itinéraires ‘bis’) for travellers keen to avoid traffic jams. The Bison Futé traffic tips are broadcast across the full range of media (radio, TV, the national press, the internet and minitel) and appear at regular intervals on the road system itself. Information is updated constantly to reflect actual traffic conditions enabling motorists to choose the best time to travel.
