Définie par le DAISY Consortium, la norme DAISY - acronyme de "digital audio information system" puis de "digital accessible information system" - est la norme internationale régissant le livre audionumérique (appelé plus simplement livre audio). Elle permet l’écoute d’un livre sur tout ordinateur en utilisant un logiciel de synthèse vocale. Cette norme se base sur le format DTB (digital talking book), qui permet l’indexation du livre audio et l’ajout de signets pour une navigation facile au niveau du paragraphe, de la page et du chapitre. Il existe près de 41.000 livres audionumériques répondant à la norme DAISY en mars 2003, 104.100 livres en mars 2004 et 129.650 livres en mars 2005.
