На севере имеет выход к озеру Верхнее [ Superior, Lake] и граничит со штатом Мичиган [ Michigan], на юге со штатом Иллинойс [ Illinois], на западе с Айовой [ Iowa] и Миннесотой [ Minnesota], на востоке выходит к озеру Мичиган [ Michigan, Lake]. На северо-западе расположены пологие моренные холмы и низкие горы, перемежающиеся с озерами и заболоченными участками. На юге равнина, почти плоская на юго-западе, на юго-востоке холмы; высшая точка штата гора Тиммс-Хилл [Timm's Hill], 595 м. Большая часть штата расположена в бассейне р. Миссисипи [ Mississippi River], образующей часть границы с Миннесотой и Айовой, и орошается ее притоками: Висконсин [ Wisconsin River], Чиппева [ Chippewa River] и др. Человек впервые появился в этих местах около 13 тыс. лет назад; к 600 году до н.э. здесь жили строители курганов [ Mound Builders], представители хоупуэллской культуры [ Hopewell Culture]. Ко времени появления европейцев в Висконсине жили племена сок и фокс [ Sac and Fox], виандот [ Wyandot], иллинойсы [ Illinois], кикапу [ Kickapoo], майами [ Miami], меномини [ Menominee], оджибва [ Ojibwa], потаватоми [ Potawatomi], сиу [ Sioux], виннебаго [ Winnebago]. Вплоть до начала 1840-х население Висконсина практически не увеличивалось и концентрировалось вокруг военных форпостов, но после подписания в 1825 договора с индейцами в Прери-ду-Шин [Prairie du Chien] открылась возможность освоения региона в относительно мирных условиях. В 1836, когда численность населения достигла 22 тыс. человек, была образована Территория Висконсин [Wisconsin Territory] со столицей в Мадисоне. В 1840-50 в Висконсин, где активно развивалась добыча полезных ископаемых, хлынул поток переселенцев, прежде всего из Нью-Йорка и Новой Англии [ New England]; население территории увеличилось за десятилетие до 300 тыс. человек, в 1850-е - до 700 тыс. В 1848 Висконсин был принят в состав США в качестве 30-го по счету штата; принятая в том же году конституция действует до сих пор. Около половины жителей штата составляли немцы [ German-Americans], позднее крупные общины создали здесь эмигранты из Восточной Европы и Скандинавии. После Гражданской войны [ Civil War] до середины 1870-х экономика штата практически не развивалась. К началу нашего века ведущими отраслями хозяйства стали молочное животноводство и деревообработка. Процессы урбанизации и индустриализации в период между двумя мировыми войнами нанесли значительный ущерб окружающей среде, угрожали развитию сельского хозяйства и туризма; меры экологической защиты стали предприниматься только в 1960-е. Промышленный сектор (горнодобывающая и обрабатывающая промышленность, машиностроение), подверженный периодическим кризисам, и сейчас является важнейшим в экономике штата; растет доля сферы услуг. Милуоки - крупный центр производства пива. Продолжает сохранять значение традиционно важное для Висконсина молочное животноводство - к началу 1990-х в Краю молочного животноводства [ America's Dairyland] производилось до 18 процентов молока и около 50 процентов сыра от общего объема их производства в США. Развито свиноводство и птицеводство. Основные сельскохозяйственные культуры - кукуруза, сеяные травы, соя, картофель. В районах, прилегающих к озерам Мичиган и Верхнее, развита рыбная промышленность; здесь же - крупные озерные порты штата. Развит туризм. -

1899-1980Prolifico director, capaz de rodar entre seis y siete filmes por ano, durante treinta, ajustandose siempre al presupuesto, cuya filmografia en el western se centra en la serie del cowboy cantante Roy Rogers, en algunas peliculas de la correspondiente serie del tambien cowboy cantante Gene Autry, y en la reunion, de dos en dos, de diversos capitulos del serial televisivo dedicado a Wild Hill Hickcok, con Guy Ma dison y Andy Devine como protagonistas. Estos ultimos, un total de 28 episodios distribuidos en catorce peliculas, no figuran aqui, dado su caracter de filmes realizados para TV que no han sufrido modificacion alguna antes de su pase en sa las de cine. Falle cido en 1980, puede resultar sorprendente que Mc - Donald firme una ultima pelicula como director en 1994. Se explica porque el largometraje en cuestion esta formado por escenas tomadas de otro serial televisivo, dedicado en esta ocasion al famosisimo Wyatt Earp, y escenas nuevas ro dadas para completar el metraje. [br]b. 1 January 1874 Chicago, Illinois, USAd. 11 December 1961 Claremont, California, USA[br]American radio engineer whose work on radio-detection helped lay the foundations for radar.[br]Taylor gained his degree in engineering from Northwest University, Evanston, Illinois, then spent a time at the University of Gottingen. On his return to the USA he taught successively at Michigan State University, at Lansing, and at the universities of Wisconsin at Madison and North Dakota at Grand Forks. From 1923 until 1945 he supervised the Radio Division at the US Naval Research Laboratories. There he carried out studies of short-wave radio propagation and confirmed Heaviside's 1925 theory of the reflection characteristics of the ionosphere.
