Ранняя форма блюза [ blues], отразившая настроения освобожденных рабов в XIX в. Странствующие музыканты, переезжавшие из одной негритянской общины в другую, под аккомпанемент гитары исполняли песни об ушедшей любви, горечи нищеты, тяготах труда. Вид музыки, возникший на рубеже XIX и XX вв. среди негров Юга [ South].
