In Paul the verb is freq. missing, and is to be supplied fr. the context: εἰ Χριστὸς ἐν ὑμῖν (sc. ἐστέ) if you are children, then … vs. 17, εἰ χάριτι (γέγονεν), οὐκέτι ἐξ ἔργων 11:6 al. 28 Astérix
No doubt the most famous French cartoon character, first created in 1959 by writer René Goscinny and illustrator Albert Uderzo. Asterix, a small but determined Gaul, first appeared in the French comic Pilote, and the first of the popular albums came out in 1961. Over 30 albums have been published, and several films made; Asterix books have been translated into over 100 languages, including Latin and Ancient Greek. Set in Roman times, the albums tell of the adventures of Asterix and Obelix, a joyous Laurel-and-Hardy type pair of heroes who lead the resistance of the ultimate Gaulish village that refuses to bow to the Roman occupier. The stories can be read on many levels, are witty and full of inuendo, and thus appeal to readers of all ages.Dictionnaire Français-Anglais. Agriculture Biologique > Astérix

29 Gall
a Lowlander, stranger, Irish Gall, a stranger, Englishman, Early Irish gall, foreigner; from Gallus, a Gaul, the Gauls being the first strangers to visit or be visited by the Irish in Pre-Roman and Roman times (Zimmer). for derivation See gal, valour. Stokes takes a different view; he gives as basis for gall, stranger, *gallo-s, Welsh gal, enemy, foe: *ghaslo-? root ghas, Latin hos-tis, English guest. Hence he derives Gallus, a Gaul, so named from some Celtic dialect. -

= 10 o'clock already, we're late!; è inutile continuare, ha già vinto lui = there's no point in going on, he has already won; ne conoscevo già il significato = I already knew its meaning. Esempi in frase interrogativa indiretta sono chiedi a tua moglie se è già pronta = ask your wife if she is ready yet, e mi domando se sono già arrivati = I wonder if they are there yet. I already spoke to him; hai già mangiato? = did you eat yet? (ma l'uso britannico standard prevede ancora "I've already spoken to him" e "have you eaten yet?")* * *già/dʒa/Ci sono tre modi principali per tradurre già in inglese: already, yet e before. = 10 o'clock already, we're late!; è inutile continuare, ha già vinto lui = there's no point in going on, he has already won; ne conoscevo già il significato = I already knew its meaning.
