Род. Слово gender встречается сейчас повсюду: gender differences (различия между полами), gender-based difficulties (проблемы полов), gender issues (вопросы, связанные с полом). Удивительно, что многие люди боятся слова sex (пол), несмотря на то что это традиционное слово, используемое в дискуссиях о разнице между мужчинами и женщинами. Однако всё чаще в английском языке слово sex означает секс и ничего больше. Слово gender пришло в английский в XIV в. и образовано от французского слова genre. Оно означало «сорт» или «вид», а также грамматическую категорию рода. В Великобритании в 1960-е гг. слово gender стало обозначать формальную половую принадлежность, окончательно закрепившись в этом значении в 1980-е гг. Даже обычные анкеты теперь содержат формулу Gender F/M (Пол М/Ж). Разница, особенно в политических взглядах, между мужчинами и женщинами описывается как the gender gap — расхождение во взглядах между полами. -
