A very fine lace made of pita fibre in South America. Sometimes cotton is used, and very occasionally silk. It is a native cottage industry. Nanduti is used almost entirely locally for shawls, handkerchiefs, mantillas, etc. It is made in small squares or fancy circle joined together, the design is laid out on cardboard and the lace made on this with the needle. The word is said to be of native Indian (Guaranian) origin meaning " spider web." -
