    ἐφημερία, ας, ἡ (s. ἡμέρα and next entry; SEG VII 29 [I B.C.]) a class of priests who performed daily (hence the name) duties for a fixed period in the temple at Jerusalem, division (LXX; cp. Jos., Ant. 12, 265). There were 24 such divisions, each one of which took care of the temple duties for one week (1 Ch 23:6; 28:13 al.). Schürer II 245–50; Billerb. II 55ff. The ἐ.
