    (generally a priest, but often in the present day a layman engaged in non-priestly occupations although the name is strictly only applicable to one who knows andᅠ repeats the Veda) RV. etc. etc.;

Each of the four Vedas has its own Brāhmaṇa or Brāhmaṇas:-- ऐतरेय or आश्व- लायन and कौषीतकी or सांख्यायन belonging to the Ṛigveda; शतपथ to the Yajurveda, पञ्चविंश and षड्विंश and six more to the Sāmaveda, and गोपथ to the Atharvaveda.
