ṛitv-íjmfn. (fr. yaj), sacrificing at the proper time, sacrificing regularly;
(k) m. a priest (usually four are enumerated, viz. Hotṛi, Adhvaryu, Brahman, andᅠ Udgātṛi;
each of them has three companions orᅠ helpers, so that the total number is sixteen, viz. hotṛi, Maitrāvaruṇa, Acchāvāka, Grāva-stut;
adhvaryu, Prati-prasthātṛi, Neshṭṛi, Un-netṛi;
brahman, Brāhmaṇācchaṇsin, Agnīdhra, Potṛi;

dhíshṇyamfn. mindful, attentive, benevolent, liberal (Aṡvins) RV. I, 3, 2; 89, 4 etc.. ;

viz. besides the āgnīdhrīya < in the Āgnīdhra> those in the Sadas < seeᅠ s.v.> belonging to the hotṛi, the maitrā-varuṇa orᅠ pra-ṡastṛi, the brāhmaṇācchaṉsin, the potṛi, neshṭṛi andᅠ acchā-vāka;

3 ब्राह्मण
brā́hmaṇamfn. relating to orᅠ given by a Brāhman, befitting orᅠ becoming a Brāhman, Brāhmanical AV. TBr. MBh. ;
(- ṇá) m. one who has divine knowledge (sometimes applied to Agni),
a Brāhman, a man belonging to the 1st of the 3 twice-born classes andᅠ of the 4 original divisions of the Hindū body
(generally a priest, but often in the present day a layman engaged in non-priestly occupations although the name is strictly only applicable to one who knows andᅠ repeats the Veda) RV. etc. etc.;

the AV. has one Brāhmaṇa called Go. -patha) Nir. GṛṠrS. etc.;
the Soma vessel of the Brahman priest RV. AV. ;
a society orᅠ assemblage of Brāhmans, a conclave W. ;

4 होतृ
hótṛim. (fr. 1. hu) an offerer of an oblation orᅠ burnt-offering (with fire), sacrificer, priest, (esp.) a priest who at a sacrifice invokes the gods orᅠ recites the Ṛig-veda, a Ṛig-veda priest (one of the 4 kinds of officiating priest seeᅠ ṛitvij;
properly the Hotṛi priest has 3 assistants, sometimes called Purushas, viz. the Maitrā-varuṇa, Aochā-vāka, andᅠ Grāvastut;
to these are sometimes added three others, the Brāhmaṇācchaṇsin, Agnīdhra orᅠ Agnīdh, andᅠ Potṛi, though these last are properly assigned to the Brahman priest;
sometimes the Neshṭṛi is substituted for the Grāva-stut) RV. etc. etc.;
