גואלה

גּוֹאֵלm. (b. h.; גָּאַל) vindicator, redeemer, relative entitled to redemption (Lev. 25:25 sq.); in general relation.ג׳ הדם avenger of blood, nearest relation (Num. 35:19 sq.). Macc.II, 7. Ib. 12a (read:) אב שהרג בנו בנו נעש׳ לו ג׳ הדם when a father killed a son of his, his (surviving) son becomes the avenger of blood. Tanḥ. Masé 11 וימצא אותו הג׳ and the avenger may meet him; Num. R. s. 23 ג׳ הדם. Macc.10a (ref. to Deut. 19:6) בג׳ הדם הכתובוכ׳ the text means the avenger (is not punished); a. fr.Pl. גּוֹאֲלִים, גּוֹאֲלִין. B. Kam. 109a; Kidd.21a (ref. to Num. 5:8) וכי יש אדם שאין לו ג׳ is there a person … without relations (heirs)?; Snh.68b גואל. B. Kam. l. c.b>; Snh.69a בידוע שאין לו ג׳ it is known that the minor has no heirs (off-spring); a. fr.Esp. the redeemer from captivity, also the Lord. Lev. R. s. 32 end; Cant. R. to IV, 7; Koh. R. to IV, 1 (ref. to וגֻלָּהּ, Zech. 4:2) one reads גּוֹלֶה (He emigrates), and one reads גּוֹאֲלָהּ (not גאולה) her Redeemer (goes at the head of Israel). Ib. מאן דאמר גואלה פרוקא (not גאולה) he who reads גואלה means ‘the Redeemer as it says (Is. 47:4), Our redeemer Pesik. Sliḥ. p. 166b> אין … אלא בג׳ מלא they will be redeemed only through a complete redeemer (ref. to גואל Is. 59:20 written plene). Ex. R. s. 26 beg.; a. fr.Pl. as above. Gen. R. s. 85; Yalk. ib. 145 מהיכן ג׳ עומדים (not גדולים) whence will the redeemers rise (if not from Judah)? Ib. ג׳ אני מעוברת I am going pregnant with redeemers (of Israel).
