1909-1980Llega a Hollywood en 1943 desde Broadway en su condicion de dialoguista. Inmediatamente, en 1944, dirige su primera pelicula para Columbia, productora para la que realizara casi la mitad de las que componen su filmografia, que nos lleva a 1980, ano de su muerte, y a un total de 53 filmes. Productos todos ellos de genero, entre los que los hay estupendos (El hombre de Colorado, por ejemplo), menos estupendos, mediocres, insignificantes y, unos pocos, sencillamente horribles (tanto peores cuanto mas se van acercando al final de su carrera). Los westerns estan, tal vez, entre lo mas granado de su produccion, en especial The Gambler from Natchez y Un hombre solitario, ademas del ya citado El hombre de Colorado.
