Город на северо-западе штата Огайо, на берегу залива Моми [Maumee Bay] в устье р. Толидский университет [Toledo, University of] (1872), Медицинский колледж Огайо [Medical College of Ohio] (1964). Близ современного города в 1794 произошла Битва у поваленных деревьев [ Fallen Timbers, Battle of]. Первое поселение основано у форта Индастри [Fort Industry] (1794), построенного Э. Уэйном [ Wayne, Anthony]; приток переселенцев усилился после победы американской армии над коалицией англичан и индейцев (1813). Созданные в 1817 поселки Порт-Лоренс [Port Lawrence] и Вистула [Vistula] объединились в 1833, образовав г. Толидо. Некоторое время на земли претендовали два штата - Мичиган и Огайо.
