Gipfel, cacumen, culmen (ersteres, insofern [1127] der G. in eine Spitze ausläuft, daher von dem G. einer Pyramide, eines Baumes etc., culmen, insofern er den höchsten Standpunkt bildet; beide auch vom G. eines Berges). – fastigium (eig. der Giebel des Daches, bezeichnet den G. als den vornehmsten u. imposantesten Standpunkt; dah. bildl. vom höchsten Gipfel menschlicher Größe). – vertex (der Scheitel, Scheitelpunkt, z.B. eines Berges). – summus gradus (bildl. die höchste Stufe, z.B. claritatis). – Häufig wird auch das deutsche »Gipfel« im Latein. durch summus (eig. u. uneig.) umschrieben, z.B. der G. des Berges, summum iugum montis; oder bl. mons summus. – Bildl., der höchste G. des Glücks, summum culmen fortunae oder beatae vitae: der G. des Ruhms, gloria summa: den G. des Ruhms erreichen, ad summum gradum claritatis pervenire; summam gloriam oder laudem consequi: auf dem G. des Ruhms stehen, florere gloriā: auf dem G. seiner Macht sein od. stehen, in flore virium esse.
