(1892-1973) Бак, ПерлПисательница, лауреат Пулитцеровской [ Pulitzer Prize] (1931) и Нобелевской (1938) премий по литературе. Выросла в Китае, где ее родители были пресвитерианскими миссионерами. Получив образование в Китае и США, она с 1922 начала печатать статьи о жизни в Китае в американских журналах, практически впервые познакомив с этой темой широкую публику своей страны. Этому же посвящены романы "Восточный ветер, западный ветер" ["East Wind, West Wind"] (1930), а также "Земля" ["The Good Earth"] (1931), "Сыновья" ["Sons"] (1932), "Распадающийся дом" ["A House Divided"] (1935), входящие в трилогию "Обитель-земля" ["The House of Earth"]. В 1936 написала две книги, посвященные жизни своих родителей.
