(1842-1914) Чаффи, Эдна РомэнзаВоенный. В 19-летнем возрасте вступил добровольцем в кавалерийскую часть армии северян, через несколько недель стал сержантом, через год - первым сержантом [ First Sergeant]. В 1863 приказом военного министра [ Secretary of War] получил офицерское звание. К 1888 после участия в ряде войн с индейцами [ Indian Wars] стал майором. В 1898 участвовал в Испано-американской войне [ Spanish-American War] в должности бригадного генерала и генерал-майора добровольцев. В середине 1900 возглавил американский контингент в колониальных войсках западных стран в Китае при подавлении боксерского восстания, получил звание генерал-майора регулярной армии. Распределен в кавалерию. Во время первой мировой войны служил в Американских экспедиционных силах [ American Expeditionary Force], получил звание полковника [ Colonel]. В 1920 окончил Высший военный колледж Сухопутных войск [ Army War College]. С 1928 сотрудник аппарата Военного ведомства [ War Department], занимался созданием бронетанковых формирований.
