Магазин, реализующий один вид продукции (например булочная, обувной магазин) или широкий ассортимент товаров (например универмаг, супермаркет). Некоторые розничные предприятия занимаются подготовкой и упаковкой продукции перед их реализацией конечному потребителю, однако большинство из них продают уже упакованные товары. В былые времена розничные торговые предприятия играли пассивную роль в процессе сбыта товаров, обеспечивая лишь удобное место для реализации продукции производителей (часто по ценам, которые назначались самими производителями). Однако с появлением фирменных магазинов розничной торговли (см. Chain store) их роль значительно возросла. Они стали закупать продукцию оптом, требуя у производителей ценовых скидок.
