¿To see, to watch o to look?
A menudo se usa con can o could: I can see the mountains from my bedroom. Puedo ver las montañas desde mi dormitorio.
To look at implica una acción deliberada: I saw an old atlas, so I opened it and looked at the maps.
I watched the planes in the sky with great interest. Igualmente puede indicar el paso del tiempo (we watched the animals playing for half an hour, durante media hora observamos cómo jugaban los animales), movimiento (they stood there watching the cars drive off into the distance, se quedaron allí de pie viendo cómo se marchaban los coches) o vigilancia (the policemen have been watching this house because they thought we were thieves, los policías estaban vigilando la casa porque pensaban que éramos ladrones).
Para hablar de películas u obras de teatro usamos to see: Have you seen Hamlet?, ¿Has visto Hamlet? To watch se refiere a la televisión y los deportes en general: I always watch the television in the evening. Siempre veo la televisión por las noches. I like to watch football.
Me gusta ver el fútbol. Al hablar de programas o partidos específicos podemos usar tanto to watch como to see: I like to see/watch the news at 9:00. Me gusta ver las noticias a las 9.00. Did you see/watch the match last night?, ¿Viste el partido anoche?

Grammatical information: f.Meaning: `(human) voice, sound, speech' (Il.).Other forms: *οὐδήεσσα is a suggestion of Aristotle for αὐδ., meant as `ἐπίγειος'; Beekes, Die Spr. 18, 1972, 127f.Derivatives: αὐδήεις `with (human) voice' (Il.); denom. verb αὐδάω, aor. αὐδῆσαι `talk, speak, speak to' (Il.). (Chantr.'s opposition of a god(dess) with a human voice, language as opposed to the language of the gods is wrong. It means `having a voice (to speak with)', which may be `human' or `beautiful' as the context requires; s. Beekes, l.c. 128 n.3.Etymology: Long since derived from a root au̯ed-, seen in ἀείδω, and with long grade in ἀ(Ϝ)ηδ-ών. An o-grade (* h₂uod-, perhaps with loss of the laryngeal: De Saussure's law) would be found in ` Ησί-(Ϝ)οδος and in Ϝοδόν (written γοδόν) γόητα and Ϝοδᾶν (written γ-) κλαίειν H. (but Chantr. considers the glosses unreliable). The zero grade was seen in ὑδέω. The problem is that * h₂u-ed- beside * h₂u-ei-d is not easy, and that a long vowel in *h₂u-ēd- is also not very probable; there is also discussion whether * h₂ud- gave ὑδ- (Beekes) or αὐδ- (Peters, Lar. 65ff, 72). - Outside Greek * h₂ued- perhaps in Skt. vádati `speak', with zero grade ud- in ud-itá-. (Lith. vadinù `call, name', however, has *- dʰ-: Winter's law). Long grade e. g. Skt. vāda- m. `sound, call', OCS vada `calumnia', OHG far-wāʒan `deny'. Uncertain Toch. A wätk-, B watk- `order'. Page in Frisk: 1,184Greek-English etymological dictionary

Grammatical information: f.Meaning: `dark(ness), murk, night' (Thgn., Pi.).Other forms: Dor. (Hp.) and several expressions for `dark colour, dark red': ὄρφν-ινος (Pl., X.), - ιος `id.' (Arist., Plu.), - ήεις (Q. S., Man.), - ός (Nic.); unclear ὀρφν-ίτας m. (Dor.), adjunct of τάλαρος (AP), cf. Redard 114.Origin: XX [etym. unknown]Etymology: Etymology debated. The similarity with ἔρεβος is long since observed (Curtius 480; thus Hirt IF 12, 226); in that case we would have to posit a basis * orgʷ-s-no- (with the same suffix as in the opposita λύχνος \< * luk-s-no-); ( νέφος: ὄμβρος cannot be sompared). -- By Persson Stud. 218 f. however compared with a Germ. adj. for dark shades of colour, e.g. OHG erpf `fuscus', OE eorp, earp `darkcoloured, blackish', PGm. * erpa-; to this also with diff. ablaut names of the partridge, e.g. OHG repa-huon; with nasal many Slav. words, e.g. Russ. rjáb `motley' (OCS *rębъ), CSl. jerębь `partridge'. -- Diff. again Scheftelowitz BB 29, 17: to Arm. arǰn `darkbrown' (IE * argʷhen-, evt. * orgʷhen-). -- Unclear are Toch. B erkent-, A arkant-'black' as well as B orkamo `dark', A orkäm `darkness' (Ural. LW [loanword]?; s.v. Windekens Orbis 11, 605 w. lit.). -- Further forms w. lit. in WP. 1, 146 a. 2, 367, Pok. 334 u. 857, Vasmer s. rjabína and rjabój, also W.-Hofmann s. rōbus. Older lit. in Bq. - The comparisons are not very convincing.Page in Frisk: 2,431-432Greek-English etymological dictionary
