Lehre is the name for vocational training in trade and industry. It is strictly regulated and usually lasts three years, although those who have their Abitur are often allowed to reduce this by one year. Cultural note: grüner Punkt The grüner Punkt is the green spot symbol which appears on packaging, indicating that the packaging should not be thrown into the normal household refuse but kept separate to be recycled through the DSD (Duales System Deutschland) system.
