Глаголу хвастаться соответствуют английские boast и brag, которые могут взаимозаменяться в значении 'преувеличивать собственные достоинства, успехи и т. д.': он хвастался своей необычайной силой – he bragged of his unusual strength или he boasted of his unusual strength; он хвастался, что никто не сможет победить его в беге – he boasted that no one could beat him in running или he bragged that no one could beat him in running. В значении 'хвастаться – гордиться чем-л.' может употребляться только глагол boast: он хвастался успехами своей спортивной команды – he boasted of the success of his team.
