как известно, большой. На сленге - важный, успешный. Смысл некоторых из многочисленных словосочетаний дан ниже:Big brother — "большой брат" (имеется в виду - надзирающее за тобой правительство). Это из Оруэлла, пользующегося огромной популярностью в англоязычном мире.
Big deal — что-то важное. Not a big deal - ерунда. Мы объясняем загадочностью американской души тот факт, что Big deal! В разговоре чаще всего и означает Not a big deal!, т. е. используется с сарказмом.
