(devant les substantifs masculins commençant par une consonne, à l'exception de ceux commençant par s + consonne, gn, ps, z, et x, bello devient bel au sing., bei au pl.; devant s + consonne, gn, ps, z , et x , il reste bello au sing. et devient begli au pl.; devant une voyelle, il devient bell' au sing. et begli au pl. lequel devient begl' devant un mot commençant par un i; devant les substantifs féminins il devient bella au sing. lequel est généralement élidé devant une voyelle, et belle au pl. qui peut être élidé également devant un mot commençant par la lettre e) 1. beau: una bella donna une belle femme; un bell'uomo un bel homme; un bel libro un beau livre; ha un bel visino elle a un beau visage, son visage est charmant. 2.
