ἔκδικος, ον (s. prec. two entries; Trag. et al.; ins, pap, LXX; JosAs 28:3; SibOr 3, 365; Tat.) pert. to justice being done so as to rectify wrong done to another, punishing, subst. one who punishes (Plut., Mor. 509f; Herodian 2, 14, 3; 7, 4, 5; Sir 30:6; Wsd 12:12; 4 Macc 15:29) of God: (Appian, Bell. Civ. 2, 85 §360; Jos., Bell. 5, 377) ἔ. περὶ πάντων τούτων 1 Th 4:6.
