В большом современном здании кабина лифта с 15 пассажирами на добрый час застревает между этажами. Среди запертых в ней людей - беременная женщина, вор-карманник, грабитель, сумасшедший, сбежавший из психбольницы, неверная жена, недоверчивый слуга, старлетка с пышными формами, элегантный буржуа, девушка, которую желают насильно выдать замуж и она хочет покончить с собой вместе со своим любимым, и т. д. Чтобы освободить пассажиров лифта, пожарным приходится проламывать стену здания. Женщина рожает. Карманника мучает совесть, и он возвращает соседям все, что украл у них. На 1-м этаже грабители по ошибке открывают огонь по киноактерам, переодетым в полицейских; настоящие полицейские хватают их, а вместе с ними - их сообщника, только что освобожденного из лифта. Старлетка говорит режиссеру, что это происшествие могло бы послужить превосходным сюжетом для фильма. Инженер, отвечающий за нормальную работу лифтов, возвращается с футбольного матча, когда все уже позади.► Симпатичная комедия унанимистской направленности. Карикатурность иногда слишком тяжеловесна, но фильм выгодно использует разнообразные социальные типажи каирцев. Очевидно, что для Абу Сейфа история начинается и заканчивается на юмористической нотке, сколько бы ни было в промежутке драматических и даже трагических эпизодов. Бодрость и народный юмор роднят Абу Сейфа с итальянскими режиссерами. И этот фильм, в частности, довольно сильно напоминает послевоенные итальянские комедии, где цинизм еще не полностью вытеснил доброту и яркость красок.N.В. Схожая исходная ситуация (12 человек, уцелевшие в авиакатастрофе, должны жить вместе в пустыне) легла в основу его фильма Начало, Аl bedaya, показанного на Венецианском кинофестивале 1986 г. под названием Империя Сатаны. Но в Начале, которое также пропитано юмором, сюжет слишком быстро переходит в плоскость назидательной притчи о злоупотреблении властью и диктатуре.
