(-तः) [अवरम् अत्यन्तश्रेष्ठं व्रतमस्य]1 the Sun.-2 a kind of tree ( Arka).-शैलः [अवरः पश्चाद्वर्ति शैलः] the western mountain (behind which the sun is supposed to set). -

as such they are demons of the first order in perpetual hostility with the gods, andﾠ must not be confounded with the Rākshasas orﾠ imps who animate dead bodies andﾠ disturb sacrifices>;
