Organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee as skating's (figure skating, speed skating, short track speed skating) official governing body. The International Skating Union makes the rules, trains and certifies judges, and determines how international figure skating competitions, including the Olympics, are run. Its headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland. The president of the ISU is Ottavio Cinquanta.

Вторая и более длинная часть соревнований в одиночном и парном фигурном катании, исполняемая после короткой программы. В произвольной программе исполняются все виды элементов (прыжки, вращения, шаги, спирали и т.д.), но предписано только количество этих элементов, а содержание свободно для выбора спортсменом. Программа длится 4,5 минуты у мужчин и пар, 4 минуты у женщин.

free skating (FS)
Second and longer of the two programs performed by singles and pair skaters at a figure skating competition that follows after the short program. All types of elements (jumps, spins, steps, spirals, etc.) are performed in free skating, but only the quantity of the elements are strictly prescribed, the content of the program is up to the skaters choice. The time limit is 4.5 minutes for men's singles and pairs and 4 minutes for ladies' singles.

Олимпийская дисциплина, основная идея которой заключается в передвижении спортсмена или пары спортсменов на коньках по льду с выполнением дополнительных элементов (вращений, прыжков, комбинаций шагов, поддержек и др.) под музыку. В программе Олимпийских игр по фигурному катанию различают индивидуальные соревнования среди мужчин и среди женщин, парное катание, танцы на льду. В 2011 году МОК принял решение о включении командных соревнований по фигурному катанию в программу Олимпийских зимних игр 2014 года в Сочи.

Olympic discipline in which individuals, or pairs perform spins, jumps, footwork and other intricate and challenging moves set to music while sliding on ice skates. Figure skating at the Olympic Games includes both men's and ladies' individual events, pair skating, ice dance. In 2011, the IOC confirmed the inclusion of figure skating team event in the program of the Olympic Winter Games of 2014 in Sochi.

figure skating program
Skating elements set to music and performed by a skater in a defined length of time. The order of elements, the location of the elements performance on the rink and the music should reflect the idea of a program, its integrity is one of the criteria for the panel of judges. There are two programs for every skating and ice dance event, including the Olympic Games events.
