Goth. sokjan `search, attack' (the latter could also be from * sāgeio\/e-). From WestIE. one adduces OIr. saigim, -id `trace something, search', prob a yot-present (from * sh₂g-), s. Thurneysen Grammar 354; for the vowel cf. Lat. săgāx.
