Русскому рука 1. соответствуют в английском языке hand (от пальцев до кисти) и arm (от кисти до плеча), поэтому русское словосочетание нести в руках сумку (книгу, палку и т. д.) соответствует в английском языке to carry one's bag, etc. in one's hand(s), анести (держать) ребенка на руках — to carry (to hold) a child in one's arms;
взяться за руки — to join hands;
идти под руку — to walk arm in arm.
