Rag фигурирует в нескольких выражениях: a rag-bag of ideas — смешение разных идей (сначала слово rag-bag означало мешок для лоскутов); rag-tag and bobtail — подонки, сброд; rag and bone man — старьёвщик; the rag trade — торговля одеждой; glad rags — лучшее праздничное платье; живописные лохмотья; a red rag to a bull — то, что приводит в ярость, бешенство.Don't talk to him about his mother-in-law. I haven't a rag to my back.
Отсюда to chew the rag — сплетничать, перемывать косточки и to get one's rag out — рассердиться, разозлиться. -

60 RAG
Rag out (to) — приодеться (на вечеринку, например).
(*)
To be on the rag — иметь месячные.O.T.R. — сокращение от (*) to be on the rag, что, повторим в который раз, делает выражение гораздо мягче.
