  • 53 such, so

    Употребление местоимений "such" и "so"
    1)

Today is such a nice day — Сегодня такой прекрасный день.

Such days are very rare in this country —

She is so beautiful —

And she sings so charmingly —

She was so graceful a woman —

В обоих случаях вместо соответствующих местоимений следует употреблять конструкцию like this/that.

You shouldn't behave like this (*...behave so) — Вы не должны вести себя так.

    3) После независимого прилагательного с местоимением so или существительного с местоимением such может употребляться конструкция as to + инф.

Fortunately, the weather was so warm as to render the water rather grateful —

I would sooner burn my diary than he should read what I had written when I was such a fool as to love him — Я скорее сожгла бы свой дневник, чем позволила ему прочесть написанное мной в то время, когда я была такой дурочкой, что любила его.

    4)
Nominal clause, 2a), после глаголов say, tell, believe, hope, think, expect, suppose, guess, reckon, imagine, be afraid.

The weather is hot and will remain so over the weekend —

I ran very fast, but they flew even more so — Я бежал очень быстро, но они летели еще быстрее.
