Бетховен Людвиг ван (1770-1827), композитор, пианист, дирижёр. Представитель венской классической школы, разрабатывал формы классической музыки, отражающие разнообразные явления действительности в их развитии. Его творчество тесно связано с современным ему искусством и литературой, а также с художественным наследием прошлого. На формирование мировоззрения композитора сильнейшее воздействие оказали события Великой французской революции. Тема героической борьбы за свободу с особой силой воплощена в опере "Фиделио", увертюрах к трагедиям "Кориолан" и "Эгмонт", "Героической" симфонии и сонате "Аппассионата". Первоначальное музыкальное образование получил у отца, певчего Боннской придворной капеллы, в дальнейшем обучался у композитора и придворного органиста Кристиана Готлиба Нефе, который воспитал его в духе немецкого Просвещения. В 1792 г. переехал в Вену. К началу 1800 г. были созданы его самые драматичные произведения, выражающие тончайшие личные переживания с бесконечно широким лирическим диапазоном, в их числе "Патетическая" и "Лунная" сонаты, "Пасторальная симфония". Прогрессирующая глухота заставила его отказаться от концертной деятельности и полностью посвятить себя сочинительству. В последний период творчества появились величайшие создания композитора – "Торжественная месса" и Девятая симфония с заключительным хором "К радости". Его огромное творческое наследие включает оперы, балеты, произведения для хора и оркестра, мессы, кантаты, симфонии, фортепьянные сонаты и вариационные циклы, песни и музыку к драматическим спектаклям.
