Понятие теории вероятностей и математической статистики, одна из характеристик распределения значений случайной величины X, соответствующая вершине кривой распределения: то значение xm рассматриваемой случайной величины, которое появляется с наибольшей частотой по сравнению с другими ее значениями. Соответственно, распределение с одной вершиной (например, нормальное) называется унимодальным, с двумя — бимодальным, со многими вершинами — мультимодальным.
