77 Ashcan School
English-Russian dictionary of regional studies > Ashcan School

78 Hollywood Ten
English-Russian dictionary of regional studies > Hollywood Ten

79 Stowe, Harriet Beecher
Ее романы, пользовавшиеся большой популярностью в свое время, несколько сентиментальны и мелодраматичны, глубоко религиозны: "Сватовство священника" ["The Minister's Wooing"] (1859), "Жемчужина острова Орр" ["The Pearl of Orr's Island"] (1862), "Олдтаунские старожилы" ["Oldtown Folks"] (1868), "Олдтаунские рассказы у камелька, поведанные Сэмом Лоусоном" ["Sam Lawson's Oldtown Fireside Stories"] (1872) и др. В 1862, когда уже шла Гражданская война [ Civil War], после обнародования "Прокламации об освобождении" [ Emancipation Proclamation], президент Линкольн [ Lincoln, Abraham] встретился с писательницей и, по преданию, сказал: "Так вот та маленькая женщина, из-за которой произошла эта большая война" ["So this is the little woman who made this big war"]. English-Russian dictionary of regional studies > Stowe, Harriet Beecher
