INCLE, INKLEA sort of tape used as a trimming to dress. In 1587 there is in the corporate accounts of Norwich, a charge made " for white incle to lay upon the soldiers' coats." In 1677 it was generally of a yellow colour, but sometimes blue and pink or blue and red, and was worn by the humbler classes until the end of the 17th century. ———————— A narrow coloured linen tape, used as a trimming to dress, generally yellow but sometimes striped blue and pink, or blue and red.
