Он замечает, что спина его дочери Кэндис покрыта ранами - возможно, после очередного свидания с матерью. Родители Нолы, давно разведенные (Нола утверждает, что они плохо обращались с ней в детстве), погибают с разницей в несколько дней от рук странного существа ростом с ребенка. После второго убийства существо падает на землю, как будто обессилев. Полицейский врач осматривает тело погибшего карлика и обнаруживает, что оно лишено зубов, пупа и гениталий. 2 такие же существа нападают на учительницу Кэндис и убивают ее прямо в школе. После этого они хватают Кэндис и тащат ее в клинику Раглана. Раглан объясняет Фрэнку, что эти создания порождены ненавистью его жены. Он разрешает Фрэнку повидаться с Нолой, рассчитывая, что Фрэнк сумеет ее успокоить. Нола показывает Фрэнку свой живот, на котором растет огромный бугорок - нечто вроде сумки с ребенком-монстром внутри. Разрывая зубами оболочку, Нола помогает ребенку выбраться на свет. Она видит, какое отвращение вызывает это зрелище у мужа, и в ней снова пробуждается агрессия. Ее дети (т. е. чудовища) бросаются на Раглана и убивают его, а затем берутся за Кэндис. Он убегает из клиники и забирает с собою Кэндис, тело которой начинает покрываться странными бугорками.► Канадец Дэйвид Кроненберг - лучший современный специалист по зрелищному описанию различных патологий. В отличие от последователей Вэла Льютона, он сторонится умолчания как чумы: для него все самое главное содержится в изображении, даже больше того - в чудовищности изображения. В этом, собственно, и заключается главная тема фильма: агрессивные порывы и склонности героини отнюдь не таятся в тени ее сознания или подсознания, а рвутся на поверхность и порождают чудовищ, которые становятся на экране их кошмарной материализацией. Довольно традиционная драматургия, построенная на медленном, постепенном раскрытии тайны персонажей, постепенно внушает зрителю все более тягостную тревогу, кульминацией которой становится неожиданная вспышка ужаса (роды героини). Фильмы Кроненберга, подобно кривому зеркалу, отражают агрессию и хаос современного общества. У него фантастика служит прямым продолжением насущной реальности. «Мне кажется, я ощущаю присутствие и близость хаоса лучше, чем большинство людей», - говорит он в интервью, опубликованном в коллективном труде о его фильмах «Очертания гнева: Фильмы Дэйвида Кроненберга» (The Shape of Rage, the Films of Dayid Cronenberg. Toronto General Publishing, 1983). Large-scale horizontal water motion within an ocean. The way energy from the sun, stored in the sea, is transported around the world. The currents explain, for example, why the UK has ice-free ports in winter, while St. Petersburg, at the same latitude as the Shetland Islands, needs ice breakers. Evidence is growing that the world's ocean circulation was very different during the last ice age and has changed several times in the distant past, with dramatic effects on climate. The oceans are vital as storehouses, as they absorb more than half the sun's heat reaching the earth. This heat, which is primarily absorbed near the equator is carried around the world and released elsewhere, creating currents which last up to 1.000 years. As the Earth rotates and the wind acts upon the surface, currents carry warm tropical water to the cooler parts of the world. The strength and direction of the currents are affected by landmasses, bottlenecks through narrow straits, and even the shape of the sea-bed. When the warm water reaches polar regions its heat evaporates into the atmosphere, reducing its temperature and increasing its density. When sea-water freezes it leaves salt behind in the unfrozen water and this cold water sinks into the ocean and begins to flow back to the tropics. There are various systems for the abatement of oil pollution at sea: the "Load-on-top" system involves passing the washing from tank cleaning operations and residue from discharge of the original ballast water to an empty cargo tank nominated as the "slop" tank. Fresh oil cargo is loaded on top of the final residue left after further discharges of water, the resulting mixture being acceptable to refineries despite some additional cost in removing the salt and water. Under the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, all oil-carrying ships will be required to be capable of operating with this method of retention, or alternatively to discharge to reception facilities. Another method consists in spraying on the oil dispersives and/or blasting straw and sawdust, functioning as "blotting paper", onto water, beaches, rocks and docks. The Vikoma System for the containment of oil spills at sea, developed by British Petroleum, a seaboom of about 500 metres in length, is inflated and towed downwind of the oil slick and formed into a U-shape; under the influence of wind, the oil becomes trapped within the boom. Skimming equipment travels into the boom enclosure and the oil is pumped into containers. (Source: GILP)

1) An underground hollow with access from the ground surface or from the sea, often found in limestone areas and on rocky coastlines.
2) A natural cavity, chamber or recess which leads beneath the surface of the earth, generally in a horizontal or obliquely inclined direction. It may be in the form of a passage or a gallery, its shape depending in part on the joint pattern or structure of the rock and partly on the type of process involved in its excavation. Thus, caves worn by subterranean rivers may be different in character from, and of considerably greater extent than, a sea-cave eroded by marine waves.
3) A natural underground open space, generally with a connection to the surface and large enough for a person to enter. The most common type of cave is formed in a limestone by dissolution.
