(1825-1878) Тейлор, БейярдПоэт, прозаик, переводчик периода "позолоченного века" [ Gilded Age], автор путеводителей. Вырос в семье квакеров [ Quakers], в 19 лет уехал из пенсильванского городка Кеннет-Скуэр и вскоре дебютировал в Нью-Йорке поэмой "Займина" ["Ximena"] (1844). Темы для своих произведений черпал в многочисленных поездках по всему миру. В 1844 совершил первое путешествие по Европе, в результате которого появился сборник очерков "Пешком по Европе" ["Views Afoot; or, Europe Seen With Knapsack and Stuff"] (1846). По заданию "Нью-Йорк трибюн" [ New York Tribune] побывал в Калифорнии в период "золотой лихорадки" 1848 года [ Gold Rush]; свои впечатления от этой поездки описал в книге "Эльдорадо" ["El Dorado; or, Adventures in the Path of Empire"]. После завершения перевода "Фауста" Гете (1871) был признан и как ученый-лингвист.
