Note:This much-used verb has no multipurpose equivalent in Italian and therefore it is very often translated by choosing a synonym: to get lunch = to prepare lunch = preparare il pranzo. - Get is used in many different contexts and has many different meanings, the most important of which are the following: obtain or receive ( I got it free = l'ho avuto gratis), move or travel ( I got there in time = ci sono arrivato in tempo), have or own ( she has got black hair and green eyes = ha i capelli neri e gli occhi verdi), become ( I'm getting old = sto invecchiando), and understand (got the meaning? = capito?). - Get is also used in many idiomatic expressions ( to get something off one's chest etc), whose translations will be found in the appropriate entry ( chest etc). - When get + object + infinitive is used in English to mean to persuade somebody to do something, fare is used in Italian followed by an infinitive: she got me to clear the table = mi ha fatto sparecchiare la tavola. понятно, что с ходовым глаголом "получать" полно идиоматических оборотов. Вот несколько популярных, смысл которых не сразу очевиден:Get a bang (kick) out of... — получать от чего-то большое удовольствие, балдеть, тащиться. Но удовольствие это совершенно не имеет отношения к тому, которое ранее описывалось термином (*)"gang bang". Как ни странно, эти выражения не связаны.
Get across — объяснить, но не абы как, а чтобы поняли, толково и с толком, успешно.
Get (have) a crush on (someone) — влюбиться, воспылать страстью, "запасть" на кого-то.
Get a handle on (something) — понять, что же надо делать в какой-то (надо полагать, сложной) ситуации. Дословно: ухватиться за ручку. Переносный смысл: найти выход, подобрать ключик, определить слабое звено.

Get hot — возбудиться (сексуально). Дословно: разгорячиться.Get high — быть на наркотиках, под кайфом, под балдой. Дословно: набрать высоту. См. цв. илл.

Get away with (murder) — выйти сухим из воды (не те слова, конечно, но смысл передают в точности).
Get down — вот еще классический пример простого выражения (сочетание двух очень распространенных слов), которое, в зависимости от контекста, может выражать едва ли не что угодно.
В азартной игре это означает - делать ставку. В нейтральном разговоре - сфокусироваться, заняться чем-то всерьез. У наркоманов - употреблять тяжелый наркотик типа героина.У тинэйджеров это слово скорее всего имеет смысл - получить пресловутый fun (понятие трудно переводимое - см. выше).На эбониксе - "легкое" значение get down - просто вести себя естественно, а "тяжелое" - точный синоним слова (*) fuck. Hey, let's get down! (Эй, давай потрахаемся!) Впрочем, нашему читателю, если он хочет употребить более прилично звучащий синоним слова fuck, мы все же порекомендуем универсальное, но более прямое и грубое выражение (*) get laid. (Внимание! Тут нет большого спектра значений, и напрашивающийся перевод "полежать" абсолютно не работает, именно "переспать").Но закончим с get down. Мы не обещали нашему читателю легкой жизни, правда? Ну вот, еще одно упражнение. Определите, что будет означать это выражение в устах черного подростка-наркомана, играющего в карты. (Ждете от нас ответа? Напрасно.)Get it — дошло, понял (шутку, например). Но посмотрите на выражения, приведенные ниже, и будьте внимательны.
Get it off = come off = get (one's) nuts (rocks) off — это уже будет чисто "испытать оргазм".
Get it on — в точном переводе означает (пусть скромные девушки дальше не читают): "встал". С еще большей силой то же явление иллюстрируется популярным и ярким синонимом (*) get a hard-on (ибо жесткость появляется только тогда, когда "встал" мощно). Оба выражения используются и фигурально, в смысле - получить удовольствие, поймать кураж, кайф - to have fun (a good time). Поклонники "Баунти" говорят в этом случае: "Испытать неземное наслаждение". И они правы.
Get off — может означать и - употреблять наркотики (с удовольствием). Но чаще употребляется в смысле "убираться", "сваливать". Get off! - отвали!
Get out of my face! — не спорь со мной! Хоть слова и простейшие, напрашивающаяся наша аналогия "прочь с глаз моих" - не совсем то.
Get a life! — милое пожелание тому, чей образ жизни и, часто, копание в чужих делах, вы совершенно не одобряете. Пожелание это, конечно, будет принято с благодарностью.
Get lost! — Отвали! Исчезни! Дословно: сгинь!
