    רָחַם(b. h.) to love. Pi. רִיחֵם 1) (with על) to have compassion on, pity; to befriend. Ber.33a כל מי … אסור לרַחֵם עליו you must not befriend him who has no sense (ref. to Is. 27:11). Sabb.151b כל המְרַחֵם … מְרַחֲמִין עליווכ׳ he who shows mercy to creatures (men), will be shown mercy in heaven (ref. to Deut. 13:18), v. רַחֲמָן. Ab.
