91 Virginia Colony
истВирджинская колония, (традиционно Виргинская колония)Первая английская колония в Северной Америке. Названа в честь английской "королевы-девственницы" ["Virgin Queen"] Елизаветы I. Колония была создана в местах традиционного проживания племен поухатан [ Powhatan], чероки [ Cherokee], саскуэханна [ Susquehanna] и др. Попытки создания колонии были впервые предприняты испанцами в 1570, когда они создали недолго просуществовавшую миссию на р. Йорк [York River]. В 1584 Уолтер Роли по приказу Елизаветы I предпринял экспедицию, которая создала на о. Роанок [ Roanoke Island] колонию, которой суждено было стать "исчезнувшей" [Roanoke Colony, Lost Colony]. 20 декабря 1606 группа поселенцев численностью 143 человека под предводительством Дж.
