GPRS (general packet radio service) signifie littéralement "service général de radiocommunication en mode paquet". Destiné aux téléphones portables, le GPRS est un standard de transmission radio-électrique permettant d’acheminer les données numériques (voix, texte et multimédia) en utilisant la commutation de paquets dans un réseau de téléphonie de type GSM (global system for mobile communications), avec un débit théorique de 115 Kbps (kilobits par seconde) et un débit réel de 50 Kbps. Il est progressivement remplacé par le standard EDGE (enhanced data for GSM evolution), au débit plus rapide, puis par le standard 3GSM (3G + GSM), un standard de téléphonie 3G (3e génération).
