Город в центре штата Колорадо, в Скалистых горах [ Rocky Mountains], близ г. Пайкс-Пик [ Pike's Peak]. Расположен на высоте около 2900 м. 1,1 тыс. жителей (2000). Бывший центр крупного золотодобывающего района. Основан в 1891. Расцвет города пришелся на 1891-1905 (в 1901 - 50 тыс. жителей). Шахты [El Paso, Gold Coin]. В 1903-04 стал местом столкновений рабочих с хозяевами рудников. С истощением месторождения пришел в упадок после 1920. В настоящее время производство картофеля, овощей. Летний курорт, центр туризма. Среди достопримечательностей - заброшенные месторождения золота, Старый гомстед [Old Homestead] (1896).
