Условия, на которых Международный валютный фонд (МВФ) (international Monetary Fund (IMF)) выдает государствам - членам этой организации кредиты на поддержание платежного баланса. В принципе МВФ оказывает кредитную помощь только при условии, что государство - получатель кредита предпримет меры к разрешению проблемы, лежащей в основе трудностей с платежным балансом. С государством согласовываются программы экономических реформ; упор при этом делается на достижение устойчивого платежного баланса и стимулирование совокупного предложения. Последний обзор общих директив, связанных с принципами обусловленности, вышел в 1988 г. Кредитование коммерческими банками часто привязано к принципу обусловленности, выдвигаемому МВФ.
