    CANTINFLAS
The Mexican actor Mario Moreno (1911-93) created the comedy character Cantinflas, who became famous throughout the Spanish-speaking world. Like Charlie Chaplin, Cantinflas was the small penniless man with a big heart and great social aspirations. He wore a raincoat, twisted his moustache, and babbled on (sometimes incoherently) in a language of his own inspired by popular speech. Cantinflas featured in many films, but he is best known outside the Spanish-speaking world for playing Passepartout to David Niven's Phileas Fogg, in “Around the World in Eighty Days” (1957).
