Schr. 372): to Lat. rabies with old dissimilation (Schwyzer 258) like ἄκρος: aciēs, μακρός, macer: maciēs etc. The dissimilation would have to be older than the proth. vowel before ρ-; (improbable); cf. Bq s. v. Fur. compares λαμυρός `gluttonous' (208), λαφύσσω `swallow' (177), λαῦρος f.l. for λάβρος (242); uncertain.
