патологическое разрастание тканей, состоящих из атипических клеток, которое может быть доброкачественным (benign) или злокачественным (malignant). Различают доброкачественные и злокачественные О. Доброкачественные О. растут медленно, лишь отодвигая, раздвигая, а иногда и сдавливая окружающие ткани, но не прорастая в них. Злокачественные О. отличаются инфильтративным (инвазивным) ростом: они прорастают в окружающие ткани и разрушают их. С этим связана характерная для злокачественных новообразований возможность метастазирования.
